If you envision a pregnant woman in labor, you would probably imagine a woman lying on a bed in a hospital room. Well, times are changing and most hospitals are open to the idea of movement while in labor. Some hospitals might even provide a birthing ball for you during labor. A birthing ball is a simple and effective exercise ball that you can use during labor. Benefits of exercising during your labor include easing some of the discomfort and some of the pain that you will experience enduring labor. It will help provide you with energy to deal with the contractions coming your way.
Another benefit of using the birthing ball is that it helps open up the pelvis. According to some studies, some exercises such as squatting can actually open up the pelvis up to a quarter of an inch in turn giving the baby that much room to move down the birth canal and making labor and delivery that much easier. Another important benefit of exercising during labor is that you can use gravity to your advantage possibly making birth easier and less painful. We don’t know of a mom out there who doesn’t want to have an easier time giving birth. Always be sure to consult with your doctor or health care professional about birthing exercises taking care to you and your baby’s health.
