Breaking The Winter Blues With Bike Riding
We have been on a holiday hiatus, and now that all of the craziness is behind us, we’re back. Recently there have been some winter storms blowing through much of the United States. Florida appeared to be the only state without winter weather. Our temperatures were nearing sixty degrees most days, while folks were digging themselves from feet of snow. While I would have preferred to slip on snow boots and head down the nearest hill on a sled, I was pulling an eighteen pound toddler in a bike trailer. Because even with the warm-ish weather here, I still suffer from the winter doldrums. Everything in Florida turns a depressing shade of “gray-brown”. The flowers are gone, the trees lose their vibrant green colors and the grass is crunchy and parson brown.
An eight mile bike loop with the baby in tow is exactly what we needed to get our blood flowing, heart rates up and take in the gorgeous “winter” weather. Although the muscle burning wasn’t exactly relaxing, it was a perfect way to spend an afternoon outside with my husband and daughter. We plan on making this a weekly event {as long as the weather cooperates} and bring a picnic lunch for our pit stop at the playground. As much as Ryann loves cruising along, I know she was more than excited to stretch her legs and run!
If you’re not in a snow state, what do you do to pass the winter months? Do you and your family have a favorite activity? I’m always looking to add to our list of activities, share with me your favorite!
