Did Someone Say “S’mores”?

In case you haven’t noticed, S’mores are all the rage this summer. And why not? They are the quintessential summertime treat. Not only are they delicious, but they are also fun and easy to make! But there’s no need to limit them to traditional ingredients or an after dinner campfire. S’mores can be enjoyed any time of the day and with all sorts of fixings.

My daughters and I have had a lot of fun in the kitchen recently experimenting with S’mores. It’s a great opportunity to get your little ones into the kitchen. The best part is that anything goes. There are no exact measurements, and any combination of ingredients is a good one!

Here are some of our favorites:

The Classic – original graham crackers, melted milk chocolate, and roasted marshmallows. It’s an all-time favorite.

The “PB Cup” – chocolate graham crackers, smooth peanut butter, and a roasted marshmallow. Even better than the candy!

The “Very Strawberry” – original graham crackers, sliced strawberries, and a roasted, strawberry-flavored marshmallow. Who needs strawberry shortcake?

The “Funky Monkey” – chocolate graham crackers, sliced and grilled bananas, melted milk chocolate, and roasted marshmallows.

The “Snappy Apple” – original graham crackers, thinly sliced Granny Smith apples, melted milk chocolate, and roasted marshmallow. As I was eating this, it occured to me that it would taste great with some hot caramel sauce rather than chocolate.

The possibilities are endless, but here are a few suggestions to get you started.

  • Use all varieties of graham crackers: original, chocolate, and cinnamon.
  • Get creative with chocolate: use dark, white, milk and even mint chocolate.
  • Have fun with flavored marshmallows: try strawberry, chocolate, and toasted coconut in addition to plain.
  • Don’t stop there: try thinly sliced fruits for a fun twist on the old S’more!

Don’t forget a tall glass of ice cold milk. These S’mores will make you thirsty!
