Fatigue: I was tired!
Fatigue was one of the first symptoms I had with each pregnancy. It was a new type of tired – really needed its own word because I was just down right exhausted. Nothing seemed to bring it on and nothing took it away. I found myself daydreaming about naps all day long.
When I was pregnant with my first child I was on bed rest for the first 5 months because of the previous miscarriages I had. I was so tired I allowed myself a few naps during the day and went to bed earlier then I normally would. I was growing a whole different person so it made sense why I was so tired and I had heard it would get better when I hit the second trimester. Thankfully it did! The bone dead fatigue lasted about 14 weeks for my first pregnancy and returned again when I was about 34 weeks pregnant – at the end of the pregnancy.
Listening to my body – if I got too tired I reminded myself to relax and take it easy. It was especially hard to do when I was big into the ‘nesting’ phase and trying to get everything ready. At that time I would get so tired I couldn’t ignore it and had to sleep – so I did.
I also found that if I drank enough water and ate small but frequent meals that would help keep the fatigue at bay. I allowed myself to rest when my body was telling me to and exercise actually helped me have more energy – as backwards as it sounds – getting the blood flowing helped a lot.
