Week 41

Still no baby? It’s okay, less than 5% of babies are born on their birthday. Try to remember that its possible your baby isn’t overdue at all; maybe your due date was off. If you make it to week 42, your doc will most likely induce labor.

Baby

He is curled into the fetal position, and is likely head down in the pelvis, ready for delivery. He’s getting pretty big now, and waiting much longer may increase risks such as overly dry, cracked skin, or being overweight. The bigger the baby, the more difficult the delivery, so your baby is likely to be born any day now. Congratulations, you’re officially a mommy!

Mommy

You are now considered overdue, and will likely be induced within the next week if you don’t go into labor on your own. Since your baby will continue to grow, and now has no more space, its important you see your doctor if you feel any changes, such as a reduction of movement from your baby, or increasingly painful contractions. There are several ways your doctor may induce labor, including with intravenous medication or rupturing the membranes of your amniotic sac, although if all else fails you may have a C-section to be sure your baby is safe and that you are not suffering any complications as well.
