Foot Patrol

My mom always tells the story about how I used to come home from sleep-away camp and my toes would be curled under in my shoes because my feet grew so fast. Have a similar tale to tell about your own child? Hopefully this will help!

First of all, babies should go barefoot as much as possible. This doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t protect your little one’s tootsies. If it’s cold out, definitely opt for socks, and if necessary, a soft and flexible shoe. Moccasins or a cute baby sneaker are two great options for the winter.

Once your baby begins to walk, it is important to put your child in shoes, in order to provide protection for their little feet. First thing’s first: make sure you’re buying the right size. To guarantee a good fit, have your toddler’s foot measured by someone experienced. Remember to keep checking for a proper fit once every few weeks, as your toddler’s foot will grow very rapidly. Look for a shoe that offers support, but has a flexible sole. Freaking out that you’re going to drop too much loot on shoes? Remember to shop around for sales and bargains, or check out our online store for some great buys. Although your child is walking, they aren’t going to wreak havoc on their shoes yet, so you don’t have to break the bank in order to get an appropriate shoe.

You’ll be putting a preschooler in shoes all the time. Look for something durable, because your little one is going to put his or her shoes to the test with all that play time! Sneakers work great, as to any shoe with a sturdy but flexible sole. This may be the time to put a little more of an investment into your child’s shoes, as they will be jumping, running, and playing non-stop. Remember to continue getting your child’s foot measured regularly, as kids can go up 1 – 3 sizes in a year.
