198,000 GE Dehumidifiers Recalled

Dehumidifier RecallGEA Products LP and CEM Global LLC (Professional Series) have announced a voluntary recall of approximately 198,000 GE and Professional Series Brand Dehumidifiers because a component in the dehumidifier’s compressor can short circuit and cause a fire.  There have been 14 reports of incidents involving smoke and fumes.  Six of these incidents caused property damage.

This recall includes 30-pint and 40-pint portable dehumidifiers manufactured between November 2006 and August 2007 and during April 2008.  The dehumidifiers are white with a front-loading water bucket.  “GE” and “Professional Series” and digital controls are located on top of the dehumidifier.  The following model and serial numbers are included:

The dehumidifiers were sold at Walmart, Sam’s Club, Home Depot, Menards, and other retail stores nationwide between February 2007 and June 2009 for $140 – $180.

If you have one of these dehumidifiers, you should discontinue use immediately.  You should contact Midea to determine if your product is included in the recall.  If your product is included in the recall, you can return your product to an authorized service center for free repair.  You should NOT return your product to the place of purchase.
