Size. Comfort. Safety. This seat has it all! The Sunshine Kids Radian XTSL Convertible Car Seat is truly one of the best car seats on the market for a whole host of reasons. Firstly, this seat is slim. While bigger seats have their plusses as we have noted in many of our previous reviews, there is definitely something to be said for narrow profile seats. The Radian XT is designed to fit in almost any car, even the smallest of the small. For those of you with multiple seats this is a godsend. If you already have a bulkier car seat that you use, this seat provides for a fabulous second car seat. It is even possible to fit three seats across in some cars! Perhaps most importantly, the low profile allows for easy access and exit of the seat making buckling up a breeze. Additionally, the narrow profile makes it possible to bring this seat on an plane should you need to as it is FAA certified.
While the seat is certainly narrower than most, it does not skimp on comfort or features. One will find memory foam all throughout the seat ensuring comfort for your loved one. We love that the Radian XTSL was designed to provide three extra inches of shoulder room than a standard car seat. This extra space is great for both your child and your wallet as you may not need to purchase another seat. Additionally, extra inserts are included for younger, smaller children to provide additional comfort and safety. The seat should be in the rear facing position when your child is between 5 and 45 pounds, and forward facing up to 80 pounds. That’s right, 80 pounds in a 5 point harness! Sunshine Kids proclaims that this convertible seat has the highest capacity of any convertible seat on the market. Of course like all other seats the straps are adjustable.
Did we mention that this seat was safe? Like most modern car seats, the Radian XTSL has a latch system as well as traditional straps to secure the seat. But did you know that this seat has no ordinary latch… it has SuperLATCH! What is SuperLATCH you ask? It is the only high capacity LATCH system up to 80 pounds that allows for easier and safer installation of the car seat without the use of a vehicle seat belt. Most unsafe child installations result from a seat belt not properly securing the seat. The SuperLATCH solves this problem avoiding seat belt and top tether altogether. There isn’t another seat on the market that we know of that offers this feature. Please note that the SuperLATCH is only compatible with car models manufactured after September 1st, 2005. Additionally, the seat has a five point harness and contains EPS energy absorbing foam to help withstand side impacts. The big WOW safety feature of this seat is that the frame is completely constructed out of steel alloy. Sunshine Kids boasts that this seat is the strongest convertible seat available. Warning: at twenty three pounds, this seat is not light. Due to the extremely reinforced metal construction, this seat is extremely sturdy. We’re not gonna lie, although the strap is wonderful and the seat folding is extremely convenient, it is not something you want to schlep around all day. However, when compared to other convertible seats, it is actually easier to carry with the aid of the strap. But when it comes to safety don’t think twice. Luckily, Sunshine Kids came up with a travel solution. This seat actually folds in half measuring only 10 inches thick and is easily transportable with a carrying strap.
